Scoring “The Seagull” Short Film
This has been certainly one of the projects I poured more passion on and got some of the most rewarding music from it. Still today, about 8 years later, one of my favorite things I’ve written. It was an abstract non-narrative short film from a co-worker when I did standing shifts as a museum guard in my first two years in Los Angeles. I had made some connections at UCLA by then, and leveraged them.
Ended up recording remotely with Paul Jacob Cartwright, an amazing violin and viola player who has recorded with some artists I grew up listening to such as Bear McCreary and Portugal, the Man. The mix was done by no other than legendary scoring mixer Damon Tedesco, who is the house engineer at 20th Century Studios and has worked on probably half the movies you have watched. Seriously, look him up. He was my mixing teacher at UCLA and it was such a privilege to learn from him. I like to believe he is my friend today. The flute was recorded by a good friend from college in Argentina, Belen Perez, and the oboe by seasoned videogame session player Kristin Naigus, and Seana Thompson on the cello, one of my colleagues from UCLA and an amazing cellist.
What a dream team for this project, all the budget was used in recording and mixing, no regrets.
